All 32 people, who were injured in the gas cylinder explosion in Gazipur’s Kaliakair on Wednesday and admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, are in a critical condition.
Health and family welfare minister Samanta Lal Sen disclosed the information at a press briefing held on Thursday on the premises of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Of the injured, 16 have received burn injuries of 50 per cent and above. Of them, six are in Intensive Care Units with 80 to 90 per cent burn injuries.
13, including seven children aged 10 and six aged between 11-18 years, have received more than 10 per cent burn injuries.
‘Burn injuries of more than 10 per cent in children are considered alarming,’ said the minister, adding that nothing can be said until the patients are fully recovered.
A cooking gas cylinder exploded at a colony next to Top Star Garment Factory at about 6:00pm on Wednesday.
Local people said that the cooking gas cylinder started leaking at a house in the colony. The resident of the house brought the cylinder to the main door and threw it out on the road, leading to the explosion.
